CITATION STYLES -- A GUIDE TO SOURCES |
|
|
When writing research papers and reports for college courses, documenting your sources is an important step. Crediting others whose work you have based your research upon is an integral part of scholarship. Citing your sources in the proper or accepted format helps the reader to identify these sources. This can also be used to identify other, related sources of information. Your list of references could be likened to a genealogy which tells others the history and background of your work. There are many different citation styles and you should use the one used by your discipline. Most often, your professor will tell you what style to use or will provide samples to follow. When writing for a journal or other publication, the information is usually provided as information for authors. This guide provides a list of style manuals available at this library and their location. Online style manuals are also available on the library web site. GENERALThe Chicago Manual of Style. 1993.
