Requesting Instructional Videos and DVDs for Purchase

Please be aware that expensive instructional videos and DVDs will normally be bought “on approval,” which means that we will ask requesting faculty to preview the items before the final purchase decision is made. (Videos priced under $150 may be purchased without a preview.) This is necessary because we have found that videos that seem promising in publishers’ advertisements often turn out to be disappointing.

If you learn of a video or DVD you would like the library to consider for purchase, please:

  • Fill out the top portion of the Video / DVD Preview Request. Send the form (along with any flyers or brochures you may have for the item) to the librarian assigned to collection development in your discipline. The library will ordinarily arrange for the item to be sent here for you to preview.
  • When the item arrives, you will be notified that it is being held for you.
  • Pick it up from the Circulation Desk.
  • Preview it (either in the library, in your department, or at home) and fill out the evaluation form we supply with the video.
  • Return the video or DVD with the completed evaluation form by our due date.

You should be notified promptly of the library’s purchase decision.
