When is the library open? Library hours include weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays, and most evenings during the regular semester.

What resources are available? Numerous electronic and print references are available including Hawai'i Voyager (UH system catalog for books, audiovisual materials, and government documents) and periodical indexes like the EBSCOHost databases, JSTOR, and PsycInfo. A complete list of indexes by subject area is available also.

Distance Learners in Hilo:
All University of Hawai'i faculty, staff, and students may use the Library's PCs; access requires a UHHL Account. Go to the terminal near the Reference Desk and use your UH username to get your UHHL Account, which will allow you to login to UH Hilo campus computers.

Distance Learners at Other Sites:
UH Hilo and HawCC distance learners are able to access restricted databases remotely with a current, validated student ID. You can validate your ID online (note: online validation is not immediate). Write to mookini@hawaii.edu if you have questions.

What services are provided?

Librarians are available at the Reference Desk most hours that the Library is open. You may call (808) 974-7346 for assistance. Individuals requiring TTY access can call 974-7311. Other accommodations for accessibility can also be arranged. Distance learners can contact the Distance Learning Librarian directly or send an email request to mookini@hawaii.edu

NEW: UHH and HawCC Distance Learning Librarian, Amy Saxton, is available by IM while in the office (Sunday - Thursday, 1:30 pm - 10:30 pm). To chat with Amy and get reference help or other assistance, use the meebo me widget.

The Circulation Desk is where you can validate your student ID and borrow materials, including reserves (required course readings or videotapes). You can also validate your ID online (note: online validation is not immediate).

An interlibrary loan service is also available if the Mookini Library does not have the materials you need. UH Hilo and HawCC distance learners at other sites should consult with a librarian at their site library for more information about obtaining material from within the UH system. Requests for material from mainland libraries are also available for upper division (300 level and higher) courses.

Instruction on using the Library can be arranged for individuals or groups of distance learning students upon request. Contact the appropriate Distance Learning Librarian. Also available is LILO (Learning Information Literacy Online) for those who prefer a self-paced, web-based tutorial. Research guides to services and resources for specific subject areas are also available online.

The UH System offers assistance with WebCT: Tutorials and FAQs.

Reserve Requests - All requests to place material on reserve should be placed at your home site library. Electronic reserves may be available with proper copyright clearances.
