Mookini Library & Staff / Library Collections /Library Services /Library Policies

The Edwin H. Mookini Library exists to serve its primary patrons, who are the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Hawai’i and Hawai’i Community College. Faculty and scholarly or professional researches who are visiting the library, however, are welcome to use the facility as long as all library policies are followed.

Borrowing Privileges

Visiting researchers have neither borrowing nor interlibrary loan privileges at the Mookini Library, although they may use any library materials within the building.

Visiting researchers needing databases, journals, ebooks, and other e-resources should navigate to their home institution’s library web site.

Reference Service

Librarians provide service at the Reference Desk during scheduled hours.  Reference and research assistance for queries related to Hawai’i in particular is offered, but visiting researchers are also encouraged to make use of chat, email, and other e-reference services provided by their home institutions.  Mookini Library reference librarians can help them locate these services on the Web.

Computer & Internet Access

Access to computers and the Internet in the Library for visiting researchers is at the discretion of the librarian or Circulation supervisor on duty.  Access is contingent on the availability of computer workstations, and priority will be given to University of Hawai’i and Hawai’i Community College students and faculty.  Access is granted for academic and professional use only.  Printing is fee-based.

Access to computers and the Internet for visiting researchers is granted on the assumption that the researcher is in the library for a limited time; continued and regular requests for access may be considered an abuse of this policy and denied at the discretion of the librarian or the Circulation supervisor on duty.
