Who Are the Friends of the Edwin H. Mookini Library?

Friends are library patrons.
Are individuals who utilize the resources and services provided by the Edwin H. Mookini Library and want to help enhance the current resources and services.

Friends are library lovers.
Are individuals who encourage and promote the resources of the Edwin H. Mookini Library to others with academic interests.

Friends are library supporters.
Are individuals, family members, and organizations that want to enhance and expand the existing services and resources of the Edwin H. Mookini Library.

What do Friends do?

Friends help make a good college/university library better through various voluntary activities such as fundraising events and serving on advisory boards. Friends also provide financial assistance and political support through promoting awareness of issues affecting the library, and providing support for services and programs beyond the University of Hawaii's budget.

Who can be a Friend?

Anyone including current students, current faculty or staff members, family members of currently enrolled students, and members of the community. All that is required to become a Friend is a desire to support the Library.

What are the costs associated with being a Friend?

A modest annual membership fee of $5 is suggested to help defray costs associated with postage, newsletter fees, and maintaining an accurate membership list. Membership fees are considered tax-deductible contributions.

What are the membership periods?

A Friend's membership is effective for one year, from January 1 through Dec 31. Memberships purchased after October 1 will extend through Dec 31 of the following year.

What are the benefits of being a Friend?

  • Friends receive a special invitation to the annual Night in the Stacks fundraising event,
  • Friends receive an annual newsletter that highlights how volunteer efforts and financial gifts are making a difference in the quality of the services and resources at the Edwin H. Mookini Library,
  • Friends receive advanced notices for special book sales,
  • Friends receive a tax benefit from their annual membership fee,
  • Friends have the satisfaction of knowing that they have contributed to making a good library better!
