On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Edwin H. Mookini Library, I am pleased to present you this updated website of our services, collections, and facilities. The primary mission of the Edwin H. Mookini Library is to support the academic programs, especially the undergraduate curriculum, of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and the Hawai‘i Community College. You will find on this website additional information concerning our collections and services. In addition, we have also expanded our information concerning policies and procedures and the number of electronic request forms to provide improved service.

The Mookini Library provides materials, both print and non-print, that supplement and augment classroom instruction. These materials create the basis for individual research and exploration. One special feature of our website is an easy but powerful means to locate full-text in our journals. Just type the title of the journal into the "Find Periodicals" box on the Library's homepage to discover what formats, electronic and / or print, we have available.

We will continue to provide student lab monitors to assist students using computers in our various computer labs inside the Mookini Library.

I hope that this website helps you in identifying the services we offer. For example, subject liaison librarians, with specialized subject area expertise, are available to help academic programs / departments and any individual with advanced reference research consultations and collection development needs.

The Mookini Library staff is committed to ensuring that the students of the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo, Hawai‘i Community College, and other University of Hawai‘i affiliated students located in Hilo have access to adequate resources.

The Mookini Library staff is committed to teaching information literacy skills and will work with users at all research levels in effectively utilizing the Edwin H. Mookini Library, its collections, and the collections of the various University of Hawai‘i libraries. In collaboration with the other UH Libraries, we participate in an online library instruction program called LILO (Learning Information Literacy Online). With active participation from the teaching faculty, the Edwin H. Mookini librarians have developed a solid undergraduate collection of print and non-print materials. Whether students are using books, periodicals, microfilm, government documents, audiovisual materials, or electronic information, the Library staff work hard to ensure that every student's library skills are competent to work with traditional or new formats of information.

We are eager to promote the use of the Library Services, and we are prepared to assist the faculty in teaching students how to use the collections, search the web, and evaluate informational resources. If you feel there is a role for the Library Services in the instruction process of your classes, please do not hesitate to request our assistance.

The Mookini Library staff is happy to assist you in obtaining materials and information in your scholarly pursuits. We increasingly rely on online methods for the delivery of information. The Mookini Library staff believes that these services effectively bridge the distances that may make faculty research difficult in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

If you have concerns about our collections or services, I hope that you will bring those concerns to my attention. The effectiveness of the Edwin H. Mookini Library and Graphic Services depends upon your input. Encouraging communication and partnership with our primary users is one of our paramount objectives.
