I am a Public Services Librarian, assisting users at the reference desk, teaching library research skills, maintaining the library website, and liaising with faculty and selecting materials in the areas of:

Astronomy
Biology
English
Environmental Science
History
Geography
Geology
Marine Science
Physics
Tropical Conservation Biology (TCBES)
I am also the
Distance Learning Librarian for both the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo and Hawai‘i Community College, providing library support for distance learning faculty and students - reference, instruction, and access to library materials, including books, journal articles, A/V, and course reserves.
People often ask why I use the old-fashioned term Librarian, instead of something more modern, like Information Specialist. Libraries and librarians have a long history of connecting people with information, whether news, home repair, resume-writing skills, or fiction. We are continually adapting to the new technologies that will enable us to continue performing this vital task.
I frequently see discussions about how librarians don't market ourselves and our services effectively and this is why people still equate us only with books. I certainly don't have the answer to the question of how we get people to see us for what we are, except to do the job I love and do it well. Get to know librarians and find out what we can do for you.
